We made it through the long and grey winter and the wonderful days of summer are upon us!   I know that I have been enjoying soaking up some vitamin D from the sun.  With this, we also need to be mindful of the dangers of soaking up to much of the rays.

Up until recently, I trusted the labels and ingredients of sunscreens.  I thought the higher the SPF (50+) the better, that if it said “water proof”-well that it was…, and that the ingredients weren’t dangerous.  My eyes have been opened, thankfully!  I would highly suggest your taking the time and review the Environmental Working Group’s (EWG) very informative guide to sunscreens. They have done widespread research to help us know how to safely enjoy the sunshine while protecting ourselves and family.

A couple sunscreens that my family will be using this summer are the ones made by Badger and Radiantly You.  Both of which use all-natural ingredients.  From the EWG website, “The most common sunscreens on the market contain chemical filters. These products typically include a combination of two to six of these active ingredients: oxybenzone, avobenzone, octisalate, octocrylene, homosalate and octinoxate. Mineral sunscreens use zinc oxide and/or titanium dioxide. A handful of products combine zinc oxide with chemical filters.”  I am a bit over nasty chemicals…!

The ingredients in the Radiantly You Sunscreen are Expeller-Pressed Coconut Oil, Raspberry Seed Oil, Shea Butter, and Non-Nano Zinc Oxide.  The SPF is 25-30.  These ingredients sound so much better then applying oxybensone or other endocrine disrupting chemicals on our bodies.  The RY Sunscreen is a seasonal item and will be available for purchase online starting June 29th!
